In the sixteenth century the English heard the Italian madrigal and fell for it. They borrowed it, translated it, added the odd fa-la-la and passed it off as their own.
Tonight we're bringing it back to Italy. Since Tuesday this choir has rehearsed with Gavin Carr every morning, and again before aperitivo. The first half is sacred music. After a two-minute pause come the madrigals, England and Italy taking turns, with a swan from each country near the end.

He has led Singing Holidays choirs in Venice and Porto, and this week in Matera. He has a knack for hearing what a group of singers could sound like, and getting them there by Friday.
Every choir in the world is short of tenors. We put out a call in Matera, and Berardino Amenta and Li Yun Feng answered it. We're enormously grateful.
